Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.

Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.

Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Dean Apostol

Environmental Consultant, Portland, OR

Mr. Apostol is a semi-retired environmental consultant, restoration ecologist, teacher, writer, and small farmer. He graduated from Iowa State University in Landscape Architecture in 1977. He credits Professor Robert Dyas, a noted lover of the Midwestern tallgrass prairie (and World War 2 vet), with sparking his interest in native ecosystems and how to use them in landscape design and planning. Mr. Apostol has had a 40 year up and down (recessions are a bummer) career based in the Pacific Northwest and California. He was a licensed landscape architect in Oregon from 1983-2014. Mr. Apostol’s career has included private and public practice. He ran his own office from 1981-1986, and again from 1997-2008, when he joined MIG’s Portland office as a Senior Landscape Architect. From 1986-1997 Mr. Apostol worked at the US Forest Service where, as head landscape architect, he collaborated with the lead ecologist on development of a process for applying landscape ecology to forest management. This resulted in a small book: Forest Landscape Analysis and Design, along with 15 minutes of fame, including consultation on applying its ideas around the US, Canada, and in Europe. Mr. Apostol also worked for the Federal Bureau of Reclamation in California and the Army Corps of Engineers in Seattle as a manager for large scale (really mess things up) water projects. A long interest in the restoration of natural ecosystems led Mr. Apostol to write and edit Restoring the Pacific Northwest, published by Island Press in 2006. This book provides a broad geographic overview of regional ecosystems and the state of the art (at that time) for restoring them to health. He followed this with publication of Designing Sustainable Forest Landscapes (Taylor and Francis Press), a follow up to his work with the Forest Service. Another area of interest is conservation of scenic landscapes, and in 2016 Mr. Apostol led a team to research and write The Renewable Energy Landscape (Routledge Press). This book looks at the impacts on the visual landscape of large scale commercial energy projects, particularly wind and solar. In semi-retirement, Mr. Apostol continues to selectively consult, teach, and write. His next book is about the failed effort to design a new city in Damascus, Oregon, where Mr. Apostol has a small farm.
