Joshua Huck

Owner at Precision Estimating in Woodstock, CT

Mr. Huck began his estimating career in 1994 while in the US Air Force. Upon leaving in 2000, he worked for general contractors on large commercial projects in Hawaii, Texas, California and Massachusetts. In 2011 he opened up Precision Estimating to serve the needs of design firms, subcontractors and developers providing pre-construction services such as estimating, scheduling and constructability reviews. Most of his firm’s projects involve parks and recreation areas for municipalities, office buildings, restaurants, high-end luxury homes, universities and specialty gaming.

Mr. Huck employs two part time estimators and oversees multiple specialty sub-consultants. Precision Estimating serves clients nationwide as well as Mexico and the Caribbean. In addition to cost estimating, he also teaches estimating courses nationwide to general contractors and design professionals. A native of Texas, he now resides with his wife and kids in Woodstock, Connecticut.

Course Title: Construction Cost Estimating

Course Description: This 6.5 hour live lecture presentation coversthe different types of cost estimates, construction estimating resources and processes, estimating labor, equipment, overhead and profit, rist analysis, managing subcontractors, and using construction estimating software.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and utilize construction cost estimating resources and processes, and they will be able to explain the role of the estimator as an identifier and mitigator of risk.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to work as a member of a cost estimating group to estimate different components of a construction project.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to distinguish between different kinds of construction cost estimates (design, bid, and control) and be able to explain which type is best for the project owner and project.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to apply processes and strategies to estimate costs for labor, equipment, overhead, and profit, and they will be able to identify and assess industry-standard software to assist in estimating costs.
