Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.


Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.


Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Mr. Palmer is a Consulting Arborist, Certified by the International Society of Arboriculture, and an advanced Tree Risk Assessor. He is an author, speaker, and trainer, on subjects including The Future of Urban Forestry, Deforestation By Design™, The New Construction Paradigm, and The Leadership Laws of Nature. His focus is on trees in urban and construction environments, soil deficiencies and the importance of soils for sustainable mature trees, increasing urban tree canopies by ensuring trees live to maturity, and unsustainable landscape designs. His areas of expertise include young tree training, proper pruning and planting practices, Biomechanics, soil and water management, urban forestry, tree biology, and healthy root system development.

Course Title: Threats to Trees

Delivery Method: Live

Course Description: This course examines the many threats that challenge the life and health of trees, including pests and pathogens, poor soil conditions, lack of pruning, planting too from native conditions and climate, and mistakes made by caretakers/planters.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to identify and describe which insects threaten particular tree species and which insects can benefit trees.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to identify and describe diseases that are common to trees, and they will be able to explain what conditions expose trees to particular tree species.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to discuss how improper soil conditions can threaten trees and what remediation steps can be taken improve soil conditions.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to describe how pruning trees can benefit their health, appearance and longevity.

Learning Objective 5:
Learners will be able to explain the value of planting native versus non-native or invasive tree species and why placing particular trees at certain locations on a site can impact tree health and survival.
