Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.


Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.


Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

Steve Waalkes

Director of Engineering – West Michigan, Michigan Concrete Association

Mr. Waalkes has worked for the concrete industry in Michigan since 2006. His primary role with the Michigan Concrete Association is to assist owners, engineers, inspectors, and contractors with the design, specification, and construction of concrete pavements and other concrete-related products.  Mr. Waalkes also assists contractors and other MCA members with troubleshooting and technical support regarding issues with concrete design, construction, and rehabilitation.  He has also given workshops and presentations around North America, on concrete pavement practices, technology, and research.

Mr. Waalkes has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Calvin University and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois, and a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).  He is a Past President of the Michigan Section of ASCE and ASCE Western Michigan Branch, and a past board member of the ACI West Michigan Chapter.

Course Title: How to Perform Concrete Construction Procedures

Course Description: Taught by an experienced civil engineer, this course examines concrete construction procedures from planning and estimating to construction and subsequent maintenance.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to assist in overseeing the necessary planning, specifying, and estimating procedures for basic concrete construction projects, and they will be able to assist in preparing for construction.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to evaluate the contractors' placement of concrete construction forms and efforts at pumping concrete into those forms.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to determine the need for, and process of, reinforcing concrete for particular projects.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to specify processes for protecting and maintaining concrete structures to maximize their serviceability and life span.
