Each webinar session earns continuing education credit and can be registered for individually. All attendees must log-on through their own email – attendees may not watch together if they wish to earn continuing education credit. HalfMoon Education Inc. must be able to prove attendance if either the attendee or HalfMoon Education Inc. is audited.


Certificates of completion will be provided for each webinar attended and will be sent via email in PDF form about five business days after the conclusion of the series.


Webinars are presented via GoToWebinar, an easy-to-use application that can be run on most systems and tablets. Instructions and login information will be provided in an email sent close to the date of the webinar. It is highly recommended that you download, install and test the application before the webinar begins by clicking on the link in the email.

Continuing Education Credit Information

This webinar offers 4.0 PDHs to professional engineers and 4.0 HSW continuing education hours to architects in all states.

Speakers:

Alexander Charvat

Professional Engineer at Alexander Structures, LLC

Mr. Charvat is a professional engineer licensed in multiple states. He has worked as a forester in the Pacific Northwest, and he spent two years working at the United States’ Forest Service’s Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin, assisting with large research products for both engineered and natural wood. Mr. Charvat has engineered and designed hundreds of homes ranging from $20,000 cabins to $18 million ranches. He is the engineer of record for NAHB’s Log Home Log Grading Program, and he is also the engineer of record for over 30 threaded fasteners used in log home and residential construction, many found at big box stores. Mr. Charvat has hosted his own log cabin renovation show on DIY network called Cabin Rescue, has consulted on log cabin renovations featured on HGTV, and is the instructor for an internet-based class about building and buying a log home. He is the owner of Alex- ander Structures, Inc., based in Conifer, Colorado, which has been in business since 2002, www.alexanderstructures.com. Mr. Charvat holds a bachelor of science degree in Forest Science and a master of science degree in Agricultural Engineering—Struc- tures, both from the University of Wisconsin. He also competed on History Channel’s TV reality series Top Shot for two seasons, including the final all-star season.

Course Description: This course examines the types of log homes and their design elements and styles. It also looks at construction techniques, including log setting, windows and doors, essential posts and columns, and the intersection of non-setting walls.
