Donald Stafford

Founder and Principal of Stafford Inspections, Dallas

Since founding Stafford Inspections in 1984, Mr. Stafford has performed more than 12,000 inspections and has trained and mentored over 250 inspectors. His memberships and professional affiliations include the American Society of Home Inspectors, the International Code Council, and the National Association of Wastewater Technicians. Certifications include technical trainer and field trainer through the American Home Inspectors Training Institute, International Code Council Residential Combination Code Certification (2006) and Resnet Energy Audit Certification (2010). As a restoration specialist (1979-1998), he was the recipient of two awards for renovations to historically significant residences. Mr. Stafford is also president of Real Estate Training Systems, a proprietary school in the state of Texas providing continuing education real estate courses for home inspection licensees.

Course Title: International Residential Code (IRC 2018) for Texas

Course Description: This course examines the development and enforcement of the International Residential Code in Texas, including provisions for building planning and shell construction, energy efficiency, and mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with IRC provisions for residential shell design and construction for ingress, egress, stairways, emergency egress and rescue openings, fire and carbon monoxide safety and detection, walls, roof assemblies, and foundations

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with IRC provisions for residential mechanical, fuel, plumbing and electrical systems, including appliance installation and exhaust systems, ventilation, fuel gas systems, plumbing fixtures, backflow preventers, fire sprinkler systems, electrical grounding, and electrical outlets.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with IRC provisions for residential shell design and construction for wind effects, seismic activity, snow loads, live loads, and floods, storms and drainage.

Learning Objective 4:
Learners will be able to reference and comply with IRC provisions for residential energy efficiency, including insulation and fenestration, the thermal envelope, and lighting.
