Course Title: Shallow Foundation Design

Delivery Method: Live Online

Course Description: This course examines how to evaluate sites for shallow foundations and what to consider when designing them. It covers special considerations in foundation design and construction and how to improve soil. The course also looks at how to diagnosis and repair shallow foundation problems.

Learning Objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
Learners will be able to explain the importance of evaluating building sites for shallow foundations, which include site and soil exploration, subsurface exploration, and laboratory soil testing.

Learning Objective 2:
Learners will be able to establish the bearing capacity of soils and foundations when designing shallow foundations, and they will be take into account soil settlement.

Learning Objective 3:
Learners will be able to identify and describe special considerations and soil improvement needs for shallow foundations on expansive soils, stratified soils, and foundations on slopes.

Learning Objective 4:
learners will be able to describe foundation construction processes, including excavation, grading, slope stability, dewatering and drainage, surface preparation, and building code compliance.
